Nowadays, the number of people with health problems caused by unhealthy foods or diets is increasing. The most known problems are obesity and anorexia.
Obesity is increasing because people eat more Fast Food these days, such as hamburgers, fries or fried chicken. The places that sell this kind of food are available everywhere and the price is very enticing too, so it’s very easy to eat this food which attracts so many young people.
Anorexia is greatly influenced by advertising and celebrities, because young people like to follow their way of life and they are seen as role models, so if they are skinny, young people want to be skinny, too! Anorexics starve themselves because they think they are too fat. People with anorexia nervosa continue to feel hunger, but deny themselves all but very small quantities of food. It is a serious mental illness with the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder.
Anorexia most often has its beginning in adolescence and is most prevalent among adolescent girls. While it can affect men and women of any age, race, and socioeconomic background, anorexia nervosa occurs in females 10 times more than in males.
On the whole, to be healthy, we should have a good diet (Food Pyramid – picture.1) and do physical exercise. Achieving balance is something we all should strive for and if we follow certain steps, we can achieve balance in our lives. Be wise to live a healthy life!
Food Pyramid – daily amounts
Bread, cereal, rice and pasta: 6-11 servings
Vegetables: 3-5 servings
Fruits: 2-4 servings
Milk, yogurt and cheese: 2-3 servings
Meat, fish, dry beans, eggs and nuts: 2-3 servings

To be happy is to be healthy!
